Podcast Qayaq - A Comparative Analysis

Qayaq - A Comparative Analysis

This podcast is about Qayaq - The Magical Traveler. This Iñupiaq epic story has been passed down from generation to generation. There has been at least three books written to preserve this oral tradition, written by: Elders of the NANA Region (1991), Emily Ticasuk Brown, and Lela Kiana Oman (1995). Currently, I do not have a copy of the Ticasuk publication.

In the written format, each publication compares the epic of Qayaq with other works of literature, including Homer's Odyssey and Catherine Attla's The One Who Paddled. I feel that this story needs to be passed down to our future cultural-bearers. Since podcasting seems to be easily accessible by the target audience, I decided to include my interpretation of the two available publications. By downloading and listening to the podcasts, you agree to not use any for commercial purposes and agree to the Guidelines for Respecting Cultural Knowledge.

Qayaq Preface Mon, 30 Nov 2009 13:33:49

Welcome to the first Qayaq podcast, one of several podcasts analyzing an Iñupiaq epic story, passed down from generation to generation for thousands of years. This podcast, and the others in the series, is dedicated to my ancestors and to the storytellers involved in these two publications: the NANA Elders and Lela Kiana Oman. Transcript
