Sophie Shorty's
Summer
Over the summer Sophie did some
cleaning up around her house and she also cleaned up her smoke house
to get it ready for fishing season. After that, she, Katemal and
their kids went out to get some smoke wood and poles for her smoke
house. About a week later her son, Victor, went out drifting for her
so she could start cutting fish.
After cutting fish, she and her
family went down to the bluffs to clean up around some graves.
Besides cleaning up, she visited with her relatives and then she had
a little feast.
She also went downriver to visit her
family, and attended a funeral and a wedding. These were all held at
Pilot. While she was there, she also helped out a little at her mom's
place and went square dancing.
When she came back home, she went to
two weddings which were held on different dates. After the weddings,
she went to two square dances. During the weddings she had a lot of
people staying over at her house.
Later on she went up to Ohog with
some friends and relatives for one night and two days. They stayed in
a tent that Nick Isaac loaned to them. Sophie mostly stayed inside
because of the bad weather, as did the rest of her family. Because of
the rain they hardly did anything. It continued to rain, so the next
day she and her family got their stuff packed and then headed back
home. Before they left they were asked to bring some kids home with
them, so they had them get their stuff, and away they
went.
A month later they went down to St.
Mary's to celebrate an anniversary and to go to a square dance. She
also visited with her relatives and some other friends. The next day
she and her family went back home ere she finally got to rest and do
some other things that she needed to get done.
