Athabascan Tribal College
MISSION STATEMENT
The Interior Athabascan Tribal College is established to meet the
cultural, linguistic, and educational needs of the Athabascan Tribes
of Interior Alaska. The philosophy of the college shall be that its
students be educated through an integration of both academic
requirements and cultural influences to assure responsible
commitments to their future goals, careers, cultural preservation,
and enrichment.
Student services shall be an integral aspect of individual
education that will enhance emotional and physical development within
the college and ultimately provide the student with the
qualifications to succeed.
The Athabascan Tribes of the Interior seek to provide educational
opportunities for Indians, Eskimos and Aleuts. It will do so by
striving to use curriculum designed to meet the needs of individual
students. The Tribal College is committed to the recruitment of
Indians, Eskimos and Aleuts for faculty and staff positions. All
aspects of the college will take into consideration the tribal and
cultural conditions existing within the diverse, urban and rural,
Interior Native context.
Encouragement, preparation, and promotion of Indian, Eskimo, and
Aleut students shall be reflected in quality academic and cultural
programs. A spirit of pride in Athabascan language, culture and
history shall be fostered through academic and traditional
activities. Educational endeavors shall maximize the realization and
development of creative and intellectual abilities to obtain
appropriate certificates and degrees. The administration, faculty,
and student body of the Athabascan College shall be aware that
leadership and the provision of services to the Native community are
based upon the needs and wishes of the Interior Athabascan
Tribes.
