The arctic daisy grows all over the tundra surrounding Golovin. This
member of the composite family has white petaled ray or edge flowers on
the flower heads. The inner flowers are greenish-yellow. The light green
leaves are entire, with several small indentions or toothed-lobes on the
leaf. Most of the fleshy leaves originate from the base of the flower
stem, but some grow up the stem.
There is no recorded name for this
plant and no food use. When I asked my grandma about this plant she just
laughed and picked the white petals off, saying, "loves me, loves me not.
Loves me, loves me not." I smiled at her and decided to include it here.
Bill tried the leaves and decided that they were tasty so he grazed on
them, a bit.
