AKABE will begin soliciting nominations for Outstanding Bilingual Educator of the Year. We will be looking for someone working directly with bilingual/ELL/LEP students in an instructional capacity.
Nominations should include:

• A completed Nomination Form
• A statement by the nominee of her/his philosophy of bilingual education
• A digital photo of the nominee for publicity use.

It is anticipated that the nomination process this year will be all online and that nominations will be submitted electronically.


Nominations will close on February 15, 2011

AKABE will announce sometime in August or September of 2010, the 2011 statewide Writing Contest for Bilingual Students. Students will have the opportunity to submit essays on a topic along the lines of PROUD TO BE BILINGUAL /BICULTURAL. AKABE will award cash prizes for first place winners in each category. Second and third prize winners will receive Certificates of Award. All winners will be introduced at the AKABE awards luncheon, in April 2011, in Anchorage.

CATEGORIES:
Elementary: Grades 3 – 5
Middle/Junior High: Grades 6 - 8
High School: Grades 9 - 12

PRIZES & AWARDS:
Grand Prize: $100
Best Elementary, Best Middle/Junior High, Best High School will each be awarded $50.
