Lower Kalskag postal history

The Lower Kalskag post office was established in the year of 1958, shortly after Upper kalskag had theire own post office.  Mary Valka was the first postmistress of Lower Kalskag.  The post office was located across the road from the elementary school, Zackar Levi Elementary School.  During this time, all mail was brought and sent in by dog sleds since planes coming to Kalskag were rare.

It is not know when the post office was relocated near the Lower Kalskag town hall.  The post, master for that post office was Anna Malette.  The building that the post office was relocated to is connected to the community clinic.  That building was named Crim Phillips Sr. Clinic and Post Office.  He and other people built the building.

For some years the ost office served Lower kalskag, then it was replaced with a newer building near the smae area.  Anna Nalette still works for the postal service at the new post office and Richard Nash is the agent.  He receives the mail from the planes when they arrice in the village.
