John's Christmas Vacation

 

My dad didn't do much during his vacation, he said because it was like every other day doing what he had to do. But he also had fun.

During the New Year's square dance my dad and mom went up to the school gym to dance and have some fun. It started at 8 or 9 P.M. and quit at 3 A.M. So they had some enjoyable hours away from their house. The New Year's square dance went on for three days. It was a fund raiser put on by both the churches, Search and Rescue, Race Committee and other organizations.

After the square dancing, my dad went back to the same routines, checking beaver or blackfish traps or other things that needed to be done. Most of the evenings he would take a steam bath.

When Slaviq started, my dad followed the big star to a few houses here and there. Before the big star got to our house he packed water so we could cook and bake some food for the feast. He was pretty busy that day. When the star got to our house my dad helped us by making coffee or tea when it ran out and called other people to come and eat. Most of the time though, he tried to stay out of our way.
