My Cousin's
Lesson
One summer evening my friends and I
decided to take a boat ride up the slough before it got dark. It was
about 10:30 P.M. when we left. Since we had our girlfriends with us
we decided to take a longer boat ride to have some fun. It was a
wonderful evening and the sun was just along the edge of the earth
giving the clouds a beautiful pink color. After an enjoyable time out
together it began to get dark and we headed back home.
When we got home there was a teen
dance going on so we all joined in. There was nothing better than
spending time alone with my friends and everything was going fine
without any problems. There were a lot of people at the dance and
everyone seemed to be having fun. I needed to use the bathroom so I
went to my cousin's house. I noticed that they were drinking and they
were mad. While I was going to the bathroom I heard them arguing.
Then I heard a loud thump on the floor. When I came out of the
bathroom I saw my cousin had thrown his girlfriend on the floor and
she was crying. As much as I hated to interfere, I asked what was
going on. My cousin looked at me and said that his girlfriend had
lied to him about messing around with another guy. They were both
really high on booze and I wasn't sure if I should stick around or
leave. When my cousin's girlfriend got up from the floor she tried
telling him that she was sorry and that she would never do it again.
But he just slapped her and she flew over on the bed, and then they
began to fight again.
I knew it wasn't right for a guy to
be hitting a girl, or for a guy to pick on someone who couldn't fight
back. So I tried to stop them and accidently got hit by my cousin.
That really made me mad, so I went for him and grabbed him and sat
him down on the bed. Then I started talking to them both and tried to
get them to understand that they shouldn't be doing this. They both
calmed down and I was about to leave when they started to argue
again. So I stood around for a while longer to see what they would
do. They didn't do anything so I told them that I was leaving. But I
wanted them not to start anything after I left. Then I went back to
the teen dance where all my friends were waiting for me.
After awhile we all decided to go for
a walk. We were having so much fun and when it was time to go home we
all walked each other home. Then after saying goodnight to my woman I
went home. But when I got there my mom told me that my cousin and his
girlfriend had been taken to jail for drinking and
fighting.
After he got out of jail my cousin
came over and told me how sorry he was for what he did. He said that
he almost lost someone he really loved. I told him he was right to be
ashamed, and if he wanted to stay out of trouble and out of jail he
should not drink anymore. I hope he learned his lesson!
