On Oily Grounds

Ka-boom! I heard the loud sound of a high explosive going off in the distance and echoing in the other direction. The oil companies were doing seismic tests in the Valley of the Two Mountains, and even though they were miles away they still sounded close.

Later on that day my friend Jonathan called, "Hey, Garrett, are you excited about that oil company coming to town?"

"No I think they could go to hell for all I care," I told him. "Did you see what they're doing to the land up there?"

"No, but come on, don't you think all the jobs there'll be are going to be good for us?"

"Yea, I guess it would be good to have a little extra money. But let's see what they'll say at the meeting they're going to have here. Later, Jon."

When I got there I parked my rig over by the main entrance. While I was walking to the door I noticed two bodyguards there. Then just as I was walking in they pushed me out. I said, "What in the hell is your problem?" They opened their jackets to show me their guns, so I hopped back on my Ultra SPX and went home to call the two local police, Walter and Richard. I told them what happened but they just ignored me. I knew then that they had been bought because it had happened to me before.

The next time the oil company had a meeting I brought a briefcase with a camera hidden in it. After I got the tape I made a copy. I knew we would need more information so I called up Frank and asked him if he wanted to help get some information to put the oil company away. He agreed and that night we broke into the main office to dig around in the files. There I found records of the payments that had been made to the two police officers. Then Frank found evidence that the oil company was planning to dump toxins in some dry wells.

When I called the president of the oil company and told him I had this information, he said they were coming after me and I should watch out or I may be found somewhere in the wilderness. So I got out my SKS with its two 30 round clips and another rifle. But just as I was going out the door I saw Walter and Richard coming towards me. I hopped on my Ultra SPX and took off for the post office to mail the packages with the evidence to an environmental group in Anchorage. But I saw them trailing me so I kept on going. I didn't know where I was going but I headed for the next town down the river. The two cops were still on my tale so I gunned the throttle and blew them away. I traveled so fast that I made it down to Pilot Station in 20 minutes. There I faxed the written documents to Green Peace and then mailed the tape to them. Then I called the State Troopers and told them where I would be.

I knew that I was still being hunted by the two local cops so I took off for the cabin where I told the troopers I would be. Somehow the two cops still found me so I had to hold them off. Just after I got in the cabin and locked the doors they opened fire on me. So I fired back. I knew that their bullets couldn't go through the cabin so I shot up their snowmachines. But they got out their rocket launcher and began getting it ready to shoot. Then just in the nick of time the troopers came in with a chopper and saved the day. I was safe and the two cops were put away. As for the oil company, it was shut down never to be opened again.
