Beastly Fish

"My biggest fish was caught in the spring of 1994. My family and I went to Kayukutuk to fish for pike. There were not many fish but I kept on trying. Then after many hours of fishing I felt a big pull that almost yanked my manaq stick out of my hand. I gripped the stick hard and fought the big fish. Then I noticed that the fish couldn't come through the hole because the head was too big for the hole. After trying for a long time to get it through, Delores finally held the stick while I ice picked the hole to where it was large enough for the fish to come out. I was really excited and wanted to see the big fish. It took half an hour to get the beast out!

When we got it out we compared its height to my son, Donald's height. The two of them were about the same size, but the fish was a little longer than Donald was. We took the big fish home and ate it."
