My Summer with
SYETP
This past summer I did many different
things. First of all, I went fishing with Leslie Hunter Sr. during
the king season. The fishing season for kings started on May 9th and
ended on July 2nd. The king season wasn't too bad but then we didn't
catch as many fish as last year. Then on my own time I went
subsistence fishing so that my mom could put some fish away for the
winter. And I also commercial fished with Roberta Fitka during the
fall run. When I had nothing to do I went swimming over at the
sandbar with friends and also hunting with my cousins.
I also worked for the first time with
the SYETP. It means Student Youth Employment Training Program. The
other people who worked with it were J.B., Joel, Joe, Vic, Ben,
Everett, David, and Robert. We worked all over the place for the
community trying to making it a better place to live. The pay we were
getting was $6.45 an hour. When we first started working we were
throwing trash for the people and then cutting trees that were in the
way along the airport road. There was the danger that people riding
on vehicles might bump other people. We also picked up trash around
the dump and cut the trees on the nearby road so that no accidents
would happen there. I liked the summer pretty much.
