Perfect Rodding
Weather
"This summer I cut fish almost every
other day in June. My son Willie Paul and his dad would go out
drifting to catch fish for me to cut. When they returned from
drifting, everyone in our family would help clean the fish, then
bring them up from the bank to our smoke house.
I also went out looking for duck eggs
with my parents before summer started but I had no luck.
On July 8, I went up to Fairbanks to
attend Rose's RAHI graduation. It was the first time I'd been to
Fairbanks and I enjoyed it. I was so proud of Rose because even
though she was homesick she hung in there and finished the program.
Before coming home on the 10th of July, Rose and I went shopping and
to the theater to watch the movie "The General's
Daughter."
I got to pick a lot of berries this
summer, including salmon berries, blueberries, black berries and
cranberries. And I also got to spend some time with my family. We
went out camping in Kayakutuk with my parents. The first day we were
there it was beautiful. The weather was nice and it was really
calm--perfect rodding weather. Although the weather was perfect, we
had little luck. The second day we picked berries in the morning,
then spent the rest of the day moving the camp due to high winds. We
came home the next evening.
I worked all summer at the clinic,
but when I wasn't on call I got to do all those activities that I
mentioned above."
