When Moses Shorty was 21 he went out hunting for
minks and otters. He had warm clothes because it was cold and at
night. The moon was shining on the ice. While he was looking around
for mink and otters his snowmachine broke down at Cuilngug. He
tried to fix it and he couldn't so he had to walk a long ways to get
to his fish camp. For his food he only had dry fish and he had to
melt ice for water. He saved his dry fish skins and whenever he got
hungry he ate the skins. He walked about 20 miles and it took him
three nights and three days.
Moses had a rifle and he wanted to shoot a
ptarmigan but he thought a rifle would blow the ptarmigan into little
pieces so he didn't shoot one. Moses was very tired when he finally
got to his fish camp.
