"Studies of demographic trends in urban areas are typically addressed to one or a combination of four types of problems: the extent of urbanization in a country, region, or given region; the nature of urban population growth, i.e., of natural increase and migratory movements: the composition and territorial distribution of urban populations; and the consequences of patterns of heterogeneity and differentiation of urban social relationships and economic activities for the components of population growth."
