"Our charge was to study briefly three rural schools with high student achievement rates and to describe the factors which seemed to be associated with those results.

"Two school districts responded to the Department of Education's (DOE) request for information on high achieving Native schools--Lower Kuskokwim School District and the Annette Island School District. We made site visits to the Chefornak high school and the Metlakatla schools in these districts. The third site visit was to the Tanacross school in the Alaska Gateway District."
