" This article covers in depth the impact of ANCSA on third parties in mineral development and provides an understanding of the position of third parties and the security of any interests they may acquire. The article describes the events leading to the current situation, certain difficulties (large but yet-unknown areas of land availabe for selection, and the frequency of 'sequential withdrawals'), and provides a review of the problems of transition of land ownership and a description of State versus Federal procedures for disposition of mineral rights." 1
