" Objectives

Touch a Tree was written with many objectives in mind. These objectives are stated here in the hope that teachers will examine them from time to time as they work through this manual. We expect that when this unit has been completed by a class, the students should be able to:
1. Describe ways in which the forest can be watched.
2. Describe ways to listen to the forest and what it says to them.
3. Describe ways to feel the forest.
4. Describe ways to taste some parts of the forest.
5. Tell you how to make a classroom forest.
6. Describe the parts of a tree and what you can do with them.
7. Tell you how to watch a tree grow and how to find out how much it has grown.
8. Tell you how trees get ready for the seasons of the year.
9. Describe many of the animals of the forest.
10.Tell you about some of the plants which live under the forest trees and the soil they live on.
11. Describe how lumber is made.
12. Make a toy boat or a name tag out of wood.
13. Make some paper for you to write on.
14. Tell you a story about the forest.
15. Describe how you can help protect the forest.
16. Sing a forest song for you."
