Just preceding World War II a Frenchman finds his way to the Inuit settlements around Hudson 's Bay and "Goes Native". "I who had been so lately surrounded by Paris and all that Paris means, sat here clad in the skins and furs of animals in a shelter built of snow...... and I was relaxed, content, happy." ..... "I sought to LIVE the Eskimo life, not to meausure it with instruments of precision.." This book was very popular at the time of its publication and molded public sentiments in many countries .
