Referenced by: Alaska Yukon Library

Grade Level(s): 7, 9, 8, 10, 11

Theme(s): Energy/Ecology, ANCSA, Outdoor Survival, Subsistence

The primary focus of the research resulting in this publication was to provide a background for understanding Inupiat land use values over time. The contract required that the report provide a comprehensive statement on Native dependence and livelihood, historic values and Native recreation. Village studies of Barrow-Atqasuk, Wainwright, Kaktovik, Point Lay, Anaktuvik Pass, Point Hope and Nuiqsut are detailed along with maps and figures of yearly cycles. Maps of archaeolotgical sites and an inventory of traditional land use sites could be used as a model for school curriculum.
