Deloria, Jr., Vine

1970

Very Useful
Book
American Indian
Referenced by: Alaska Yukon Library

Grade Level(s): 9, 10, 11, 12

Theme(s): Tribe/Community, Language/Communication

This Classic written in 1970 is still useful and should be in school libraries along with the author's ."Custer Died For Your Sins" . Go Indian, Deloria says, go rural, go back to a tribal form of government. This book attacks the corporate patterns of American life ( a modern feudalism) and defends the tribal variables found in minority cultures- whether Indian, Black or Amish. The New York Times wrote "....... challenging, heady and invigorating stuff. The very extremity of his stance, the cold logic of his arguments hone the mind."
