Carayak (the Bear) is a compelling, dramatic presentation by six Naa Kahídi performers: a storyteller, a dancer, and four musicians, using Yup'ik-style suspended masks and dance. Originating in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, with variations found throughout much of Alaska, it is an age-old story of betrayal, revenge, and loss. It has interesting parallels to and differences from the well-known Tlingit myth, "The Woman Who Married the Bear."
