Dear Interested Citizen:

The Municipal SAFE City Program works with the community to address sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, homelessness, emergency alcohol services for the public inebriates, perinatal addiction, and urban Alaska Native issues. Over this past year, this program in collaboration with the Anchorage Native Concerns Committee has been working on several issues related to the status and well-being of urban Natives. One issue in particular, violence against Alaska Native women has compelled this program to work with professionals and citizens to systematically evaluate how to curb the violence.

This report is a blend of professional expertise, service provider perspective, personal experiences of eleven Alaska Native women, and private citizen concerns. More than a document, this report offers a starting point to initiate community action. Because the recommendations in this report were agreed upon within a short space of time, it appears that our community knows what action to take. We only have to take it.

Sincerely,

Carrie D. Longoria M.P.A.
Manager
SAFE City Program
