Introduction

This book is the LEVEL TWO Reader in the Yup'ik Reading Series. There are four pre-primers, a primer and a Level One which may have been used already with the students in your room. Just make sure the student is able to read at the level of this book.

The purpose of the first lesson is to introduce the new book and get the students ready for later lessons. In all of the books in the series, you expect the students to:

- continue to acquire book and language knowledge;

- continue to listen to and respond to stories read to them;

- continue Yup'ik vocabulary and concept development;

- continue decoding the printed Yup'ik;

- continue development of accompanying writing skills;

- continue to develop an enjoyment for reading and a love for books.

This book is divided into five sections, each containing several stories. Some of the people appear over and over in the stories and the students come to know these people. Also, there is a consistent use of familiar Yup'ik cultural and community themes. You can build on these themes to support ongoing oral language and reading activities.
Cost: $18.75
