" This article gives a brief history of the Claims Act, and discusses aboriginal rights and the bases of the Native land claims, the land freeze (suspension of action on land disposal in Alaska by the Secretary of the Interior), and other land disposal cases. The article continues by comparing two land claims bills submitted to Congress: one by the Alaska Federation of Natives and the second by the Interior Department. It gives the Natives' position on the bills and the State of Alaska's position."1
