"This study examines and evaluates the effect which ANCSA implementation has had on traditional land use patterns. The author's contention is that certain provisions of ANCSA are incompatible with the subsistence economy and land selection processes did not allow each village to select all the lands that have traditionally been used for subsistence. The study examines the relationship between the Act and the subsistence economy in the Calista region, one of the 12 native corporations formed as a result of ANCSA. It provides an overview of the Act (focusing on land selection aspects), of the Calista region and its cultural and historical perspectives, and it describes the native subsistence economy within the region and patterns of subsistence land use therein."1
