Category: General ANCSA
Length: 105 pages
"A collection of letters written to editor Howard Rock of the Tundra Times, making blunt criticisms and raising many questions on the real intent of ANCSA. Letters signed by Naugga Ciunerput and Wally Morton, two residents of the mythical village of Land's End, Alaska, were actually written by Mr. Bigjim, an Eskimo from Nome, and Mr. Ito-Adler, a former Peace Corps volunteer, when both were teaching fellows at Harvard University. The letters are an attempt 'to put down on paper certain questions, problems, feelings and thoughts that we had about the situation of Native people in Alaska today,' said the authors."1
"Covers: Pre-ANCSA History, ANCSA Legislation, Corporation Organization, Regional Corporations, The Land Settlement, The Cash Settlement, Land Selections, and 1991 Issues, Corporate Control, Stock Alienation, Land Protection, New Natives, and Elders. Evaluation: Relatively detailed coverage of topics. Material is clear and readable. Comments: ...letters...first appeared in the Tundra Times in March 1973. They discuss problematic aspects of ANCSA in a clear and straightforward way. Many of these issues have still not be resolved and are today considered 1991 issues. The letters have not be rewritten-they appear as they were printed in the Tundra Times."2
