Dear Teachers and Parents:

How to use the Village Water Resource Fun "N" Facts calendar

1. Remember above all to have fun. Science is all around you and most people are better scientists than they think.

2. Set aside some time everyday when teacher or parent and the child can be together to do the activities from the calendar.

3. Gather the needed materials ahead of time. The activities require only inexpensive materials usually found in the home or school.

4. Make the activities a learning process for both you and the child; however, allow the child to develop ideas at his or her own pace. Encourage creative thinking.

5. Engage in active conversation with the child, rather than talking at him or her. Listen closely to the child's ideas and take them seriously. Two goals of the activities is to help the child take responsibility for his or her own thinking and learn more about the water resources.

6. Be patient and nonjudgemental. Praise strengths in thinking and gently point out flaws in logic.

7. If you need more information about certain topics on water resource that interest the child, go to the local school library.
