Excerpt from Introduction:

"The CITEP Conference was convened as an international forum for the exchange of practical and theoretical information to further the development of aboriginal teacher education programs. This volume of Conference Proceedings has been published to make available a sampling of the many insights shared in the plenary addresses and workshop presentations at the Conference. While there was no formally stated theme for the Conference, one of the principles of interaction, introduced by Stephen Kakfwi, Minister of Education for the Northwest Territories, in his Welcome Address, recurs throughout the articles presented here. This principle consist of the need for teacher education and a classroom curriculum that is culturally relevant to First Nations people."
