Foreword

The Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Indian Education Programs, is pleased to present the Fiscal Year 1993 Annual Education Report, as required by Section 1136 of the Education Amendments of 1978, Public Law 95-561, as amended. This annual report provides information on BIA education during the 1992-93 school year.

During Fiscal Year 1993, the interest, support, and improvement in BIA education continued to grow. Student enrollment in the elementary and secondary schools again increased from the previous year. The Office of Indian Education Programs continued to emphasize school improvement as well as increased tribal control of schools and programs.

We are fully committed to fulfilling our mission for Indian education, one goal of which is to provide quality education opportunities from early childhood through life in accordance with the Tribes' needs for cultural and economic well-being.
