"The Scientist-in Residence program is an innovative approach to improving science education in rural Alaskan high schools which enroll primarily low-income Native adolescents. University of Alaska faculty make classroom presentations in village schools and interact informally with students outside of class. Visiting scientists also serve as resource persons for the rural high school teachers providing information on using the local environment to illustrate scientific principles."
