Excerpt:

"This Curriculum Reference Guide and the set of four Curriculum Reference Charts are designed to be used by curriculum directors and classroom teachers. Here are some possible applications.

1. Read section one, Some Assumptions. Select those assumptions with which you feel comfortable and use them as the basis for developing curriculum materials or teaching strategies.

2. Use the Charts and the Guide as a framework for developing and teaching a total school program based on community involvement and experiential learning.
-or-
Post the reference charts on your wall and scan them regularly for objectives and activities which fit with your development or teaching.
-or-
Develop a yearly calendar of important village events (e.g. a potlatch, preparation for fish camp, an elders conference, meetings of the village corporation). Select those activities from each subject area that fit with these events and use them as the basis for learning units about each event.

3. Build your own classroom set of Athabaskan reference materials using the sourcebook and other sources for suggestions.

4. Before you undertake any of the teaching activities, identify community experts who are interested in becoming part of a teaching team to help students meet the objectives and accomplish the activities."
