"For many Northern peoples life is very much regulated by the seasons. Day to day living habits change in accordance with seasonal variations. Mrs. Harriet Beaulieu of Fort Resolution has provided her recollections of summer life in the year 1913. The reader will note that this story Mrs. Beaulieu and her husband spent the summer months in the 'bush.' Above the 'tree line', an the Barren Lands, one might speak of these experiences as 'life on the land.' Regardless of the geographic location, the similarities in patterns of living can be easily detected. The reader may wish to compare and contrast what took place in the summer of 1913 in the Fort Resolution area with parallel experiences in other locations. Moreover, it is useful to consider the changes that have taken place in the North since that time. As a useful point of reference, the reader can refer to the experiences of 'Tendi' and 'Johnny' in the Dogrib Series. In her own words, Mrs. Beaulieu tells us something of her life as a young woman, living in the 'bush' on the south side of Great Slave Lake."
