"This paper examines the growth of alternative schools in America and the implications of this growth for cultural pluralism. The authors doubt the ability of public alternative schools to achieve pluralistic education. Based on a nationwide study of prototypical alternatives, they conclude that these schools are all too often used to isolate or track the best or worst students, frequently along ethnic, racial and class lines."
