Tape Yup'ik names on desks beside their English name. Students will learn how to write and identify their own name. The students will learn who they are named after. Students will identify each others' names and to respect their own names that are namesakes. The students will learn why some namesakes are honored or respected by people.

Cultural ConceptThe naming of the child is very important to the Yup'ik people, they beleived that to name a child after someone who died, you keep your close contact with the spiritual world.
