Unit Title

To teach the students to recognize the pattern and style of Kuskokwim, Yukon or the coastal styles of qaspeqs, parkas and skin boots. To teach the student respect for traditional clothing and to learn each piece on a parka has a meaning or story behind it.

Detailed Description
All the various Yup'iks on the delta make their own style of qaspeqs, parkas and skin boots. Traditional clothing styles have been used by Kuskokwim Yup'iks, Cup'iks, and Yukon people using their own style in making qaspeqs, parkas and boots.
Suggested Activities: Bring qaspeqs, parkas or skin boots or bring fur scraps to identify furs used. Find elders traditional clothing, and take pictures to let the elders tell the stories or symbols that stand for the parts on a parka.
The students identify parkas in books by sight and draw front and back, and name pieces or learn stories.
The students will make pin up doll using tradtional materials.
