Detailed Description
The women 's most valuable possession was the kakivik, the sewing kit with elaborate ivory bone fastener. In the kakivik was a bone needle, elaborate needle case, sinew for thread, uluaq for cutting skins , sinew thread and thimbles made out of bone or ivory also. The kakivik's were made of skins or six caribou ears decorated with beads , caribou hair, fish skin, or sealhair. The woman's most important roles was being a seamtress.

Students will make kakivik's out of cloth to replicate the skin kakivik their ancestor's had, the cloth kakivik's are decorated with rig rag or any other design the children can create using their imaginations. The kakivik is made with three small pouches or pockets to store the needles, thread, scissors, small uluaq, and buttons.
