Detailed Description
The students will learn about the race history that includes Kusko 300, The Bogus Creek 150, The Akiak Dash, and the local events. The race route follows old dog team mail routes along the Kuskokwim River. The mail routes now are by small planes and hovercraft, students will compare the cost and the miles that take place through the air to the dog teams and how long it took to travel on these routes . Students will draw a map to show the route of the Kusko 300 trail and the shorter races that take place same time as the main event. Each community will be identified with the information of the population, and a short history of the place. The Kuskokwim 300 Race Committee ha s a curriculum that has activities for students to work on , information on the events and, the distance chart between the villages. There is a lot of news coverage so the students can listen to the new or watch televisoin during the news hour and get the latest new on the major events that take place during the races.
