Detailed Description
The families went camping during the fall and early spring before break-up up to the Kilbuck Mountains to trap squirrels. The way of life to squirrel trapping not only deals with the squirrels but the whole ordeal to get to the mou ntain camp and back to the settlements along the Kuskokwim The way to travel back to the Kuskowim settlements was to make bear skin boat. The skins were cured for the construction of the skin boat. The squirrel pelts were mainly used for the summer clothing and for underwear. The pelts are easily tanned and soften for sewing and they are light and thin for the hot summer days . Today the squirrel parka is mainly used for winter clothing.
