Detailed Description
Students will learn about a time that the smelts will come up the Kuskokwim. When the smelts arrive down river students will get ready to go out on the boats. Students will prepared camp and buckets for dipping the smelts. They will go out and get special type of willows to string the smelts. The strung smelts will air dry for several days and will need to be cared for until they are ready to be smoked in the smoke house. Students can clean and fry the smelts for lunch or dinner. The students will put away some for the winter and share catch with elders and family members.
