712 This finely woven spruce root basket was made by Mrs. Frank (Mary) Paul, Sitka Thlingit Indian woman, and offered in payment to the Government nurse, Miss Lila Brougher, for her Home Hygiene text book in March, 1932.

713 This old spruce root basket, with the unusual design, was made in S.E. Alaska by a Thlingit Indian over 100 years ago. It was purchased from the Sportsman Curio Shop in Ketchikan in 1962.

714 This spruce root basket was made by a Sitka Thlingit Indian woman (date and weaver unknown). Purchased by Lila Berg in 1947 from the basket collection of Mrs. W.P. Mills.

715 This large open spruce root basket was made by a Sitka Thlingit Indian woman (name unknown) in 1930. It was obtained from Mrs. W.P. Mills in 1947. This was one of the best and finest woven of her collection.

716 This spruce root basket, with a braided handle (one side off), was made by a Thlingit Indian woman (name unknown) at Sitka in 1932. Purchased by Lila Brougher, U.S. Government nurse (in 1932).

717 This spruce root basket was made by Mrs. Nellie Aragon, a Sitka Thlingit Indian woman in 1932. Purchased from her by Miss L.L. Brougher, Gov. nurse, 1932.

718 This spruce root tray was made in 1932 by Carrie Lewis, a Sitka Thlingit Indian, for Mrs. A. L. Brougher, mother of Lila Berg.

719 This spruce root waste basket (for papers or magazines) was made by Mrs. William Peters, Sr. (Lottie) in the spring of 1933. She was a Thlingit Indian woman. Mrs. Peters presented it to their Government nurse, Lila Brougher, on the event of her marriage, with the following statement, "This basket used to sell for $25.00, now only $15.00. It only cost you $10.00. I give you wedding present on it!" It was sold. The roots of this basket were dyed brown with hemlock bark before weaving. The pattern is made of roots dyed with blueberry juice.

720 This spruce root open weave covered basket was made in 1930 by Miriam Bartlett Littlefield (Mrs. Charles) to give in payment for her Home Hygiene text book to Lila Brougher, Gov. nurse who conducted H. H. classes for Indian women of the village, at the Sitka Gov. school.

721 This covered spruce root basket was made by Mrs. Alex Andrews (Annie), a Sitka Thlingit Indian woman, and it was entered in the Sitka community Fair of 1957 and received 2nd prize, cash and a red ribbon. Purchased in fall of 1957 by Lila Berg.
