This spruce root basket with a cover was made by Agnes Williams, a Haida Indian of Massett, B.C. in 1962. The grass pattern woven on root seed-stitch makes a different design. Purchased at Kake, Alaska by Mrs. L.C. Berg in 1964.

This spruce root basket (small, round with lid) was made at Massett, B.C. about 1959 by Mrs. Frank, mother of Mona Frank Jackson (Mrs. Thomas Jackson) of Kake, Alaska. Native dye was used in the grass and root designs. It was purchased at Mrs. Kadake’s Curio Store at Kake, Alaska by Mrs. L.C. Berg May 20, 1964.

This spruce root open basket was made by Mrs. Mary (John) Sam, a Thlingit Indian woman of Sitka. The native dye was used for the grass design. Purchased from Mrs. Sam by Lila Berg August 1966.

This small spruce root basket was made in Sitka by Mrs. Mary Marks, a Thlingit Indian woman, February 1967 and purchased on that date from Mrs. Marks.

This small spruce root basket was made in Sitka Alaska by Mrs. Mary Marks in March 1967. Purchased in March 1967 from Mrs. Mary Marks.

This small spruce root basket with handle was made in Sitka by Mrs. Mary (John) Sam, a Thlingit Indian woman, 1966. Purchased in March 1967 from Mrs. Sam.

This very large spruce root water tight basket was made in Sitka, Alaska by a Thlingit Indian woman. The dark brown color indicates use and age. It was purchased in a spruce root basket collection in Sitka by Mr. Keller in 1906. The collection was taken to Skagway and placed in Mr. Keller’s gift shop. This collection of baskets is thought to be one owned by Mr. Alexander M. Archangelski, a resident of Sitka in the early 1900's. This water basket was purchased at Keller's Gift Shop in Skagway, Alaska May 1966.

This spruce root berry basket was made by Mrs. Mary Miller, a Thlingit Indian woman in Juneau, Alaska in 1880. Following Mrs. Miller’s death, the basket was acquired by her daughter Mrs. Mary Skeek. Mrs. Skeek, whose birth date is 9-30-83, was married in Kake, Alaska and resides there now with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Skeek. [Purchased from Mrs. Mary Skeek] Kake, Alaska in May 1967.

This small spruce root basket with lid was made by Mrs. Salina Peratrovich, a Tsimshian [sic] Indian woman in Ketchikan in 1964. Purchased from Mrs. Mona Jackson, neice of Salina Peratrovich, in Kake, Alaska May 1967. [Mrs. Peratrovich is actually Haida.]

This small spruce root basket with lid and rattle in lid was made by Agnes Jacobs in Haines, Alaska in 1962. Rattle in lid are stones from ptarmigan crop. Purchased at the Craft Shop, Port Chilkoot-Haines, and Alaska May 1967.
