Grizzly by Jackie George:Grizzlies are born with very little hair. They weigh about a pound. They drink milk from their mother. The cubs are helpless when they are born, and they imitate their mother. When a cub has noone to play with they play with their mother. The sow bear won't fight another bear as long as she is not being threatened. But sometimes she has to defend her cubs from a hungry male bear. Grizzlies are carnivorous but they also eat wild plants. They rarely kill big animals and mostly eat smaller animals like squirrels, mice and fish. They may range as far as twenty square miles. The male and female don't stay together. They are together only when mating season comes. The cubs stay with their mother until the third summer when they are forced to survive on their own. There are only about 500 grizzlies in the Lower 48. Most of them are in the northern part ot North America, including Alaska. Attempts are being made to help them survive in Montana and Wyoming.
