The Koala is not really a bear. It is a marsupial found in Australia and has a pouch for its baby. It resembles a teddy bear and a sloth.

The Koala is 24 inches long and 12 inches high. Its fur color is ash-gray and yellowish-white. It sleeps on a blue gum tree during the day. The blue gum tree is also called eucalyptus. It eats the leaves and buds of the eucalyptus. It has long toes to grasp the branches. The Koala hangs from the branches and moves slowly like a sloth.

After giving birth, the Koala carries its cub in its pouch for 6 months. After that time, it carries the cub on its back for 6 months.

Between 1919-1922, 8 million Koalas were killed for their fur. Today, they are protected.
