A long time ago there were a lot of Bald eagles. But in the Lower 48 and other parts of the country a lot of people killed them for game. Soon there were hardly any eagles left. Now they are getting more and more plentiful because people hardly hunt and kill them anymore.

The reason it is called the Bald eagle is because it has a white feathered head. Since the Department of Fish and Game found out how few Bald eagles there were left, they put a fine on anyone found killing a Bald eagle or any other kind of eagles. They would have to pay fifty thousand dollars and spend five years in prison.
