:

The Northern Hawk owl is grayish-brown all the way down to the underside of its tail. They're 14 1/2 to 17 1/2 inches big. Usually their voice is silent, but sometimes they have a rapid, high hawk- like chatter.

Their range is from southern Alaska to British Columbia and east to the St. Lawrence River, Labrador, and Newfoundland.

The similar species are the Boreal owl and the Northern Goshawk.
