The Excitement of the Bear by Theresa Shorty:A long time ago before we had the sewage lagoon there used to be a swimming pond where the lagoon is now. There also were a lot of people who used to swim in the pond. One day when Moses Shorty was walking home he saw a big Brown bear ambling close to the pond so he ran home and got his gun without saying anything to anyone, then he ran back. His parents were wondering what was going on so they went after him. By now a lot of other people knew about the bear also, and then all went to hunt for it too. Meanwhile, the people who had been swimming in the pond had to go home through the tundra. The bear wouldn't let them go by the slough. The hunters finally caught the bear in the slough by the pond. While they were hunting the bear there were a lot of spectators watching from town. After they caught the bear they dragged it down to the beach. By then practically the whole town of Marshall was watching as they dumped its big brown carcass into the slowly moving waters of the Yukon River.
