My New Boat

"I worked in the school pretty much all summer helping to put in the water and sewer lines for one of the teachers' houses. I also painted the school stairway, did some routine maintenance, cleaned up here and there and waxed the gym floor.

When commercial fishing started I took my net and went fishing. During one of the openings my helper Herman and I caught 150 king salmon. After commercial fishing I did some subsistence fishing for myself to stock up for the winter.

After fishing season was over I fixed up my outboard motor, and when I got my new aluminum boat I put it on . When I wasn't working in the school, I was usually out on the river riding around in my boat. Sometimes I'd go get firewood, or I'd go hunting or do some more subsistence fishing camp.

After school started I took some of the students up to Ohogamiut to culture camp. When moose hunting season began, Herman and I went looking for moose 12 miles below Paimiut. The next day we were lucky and caught two bulls."
