A Long Walk for a Moose

"I went moose hunting with Alo and Emil up at Carl Holt's meadow. When we saw a bull moose lying down on the other side of that meadow Alo and Emil went back to the boat to get some skinning equipment. While they were nearing the boat they ran into a cow and a calf. Just as Alo and Emil were heading down to the boat I saw two other moose swimming past a beaver house, then start eating in the water. When Alo and Emil got back from the boat we walked toward the resting bull moose that we had seen on the other side of the meadow. While we were walking across the meadow we had to rest a few times because it was a long walk. When the moose started to get up Emil shot it, and it fell right back down. After that we gutted it and covered it up so the ravens wouldn't get to it. The next day we brought a canoe up and packed the meat by canoe to the boats and then came home.

A couple of days later we returned to the same meadow where we'd gutted our moose and there was a big black bear eating the leftovers of the dead moose."
