Sophie's Babysitting Summer

My Mom had a fairly busy summer. She babysat, cut fish, and did some traveling.

Her summer started off with some babysitting. As soon as fishing started my brother Vassily would bring down his kids and they would be at our house most of the day. Those days the kids were at our house my mom would also be busy doing something else like washing clothes or cutting fish down at our smoke house. Some days when she wouldn't have anything to do she would offer to watch the kids too but by the end of the day she would look exhausted. After seeing her so tired we would try to help her out.

When my dad went out subsistence fishing for my mom she spent most of her day in the smoke house cutting fish. She also had a lot of help from my sister Palassa and was thankful that she helped her cut fish. After cutting them my mom hung them up so the fish could be smoked. After she smoked the fish for a while she put them away in a wooden barrel for the winter. If it weren't for her we wouldn't have any fish to eat and enjoy during the winter.

At the beginning of this month my mom went down to St. Mary's for a funeral with my dad and other people. They were down there for three days and had a great time.
