Working Hard

All summer Frank Amouak has been working as a janitor for the city of Marshall. He didn't go fishing this summer because he said that fishing was no good price-wise and there weren't very many fish. But for one week this summer Frank went to Fort Greely to do some firefighting. Greely is located near Delta Junction in the Alaska Range. Hot spots were the main thing that Frank and his crew were responsible for putting out there. They dug out dirt and smothered the hot spots to keep the flames from spreading. They used to dig trenches but firefighters from Marshall didn't do that this year. The Marshall firefighters were also supposed to go somewhere in the lower 48 to fight fires but they didn't get to go. This summer was Frank's last year of fire fighting. He said he'll let the younger people do that work from now on. Frank didn't do anything else special or exciting this summer. But that was enough.
